January 17 is the day to celebrate Popeye Day. Popeye has made his debut beginning in the comic strip known as “Thimble Theatre.” E.C. or Elzie Crisler Segar made it on 17th of January, 1929. This comic was initially centered nearly Olive Oyl, however, the Popeye’s popularity changed that. In 1933, Popeye then had his personal cartoon series. Elzie Crisler Segar — is a writer and a cartoonist from Illinois — who made the Popeye masterpiece during the year 1919. But, Popeye was not really part of the primary story. It took ten years for the primary appearance of Popeye. Segar published the “Popeye in the Thimble Theatre.” Its story initially revolved about the misfortunes of Olive Oyl with her boyfriend, Mr. Harold Ham Gravy. Popeye’s strong appeal attracted the eyes of the readers and influenced their writer to change the tale to a Popeye-centric story. Olive turned to be the love interest for Popeye.
The fame of the comic steadily increased. Popeye made the silver screen debut during July 14, 1933. During this same year, Popeye had his personal own cartoon also. In year 1933 also, Max Fleischer adapted those characters from Thimble Theatre into the series of the Popeye the Sailor theater cartoon shorts for the Paramount Pictures. The cartoons showed to be among those most famous of the year 1930s, and then Fleischer Studios, which then became Paramount’s own the Famous Studios, continued on producing through 1957.
The cartoons produced during the World War II was included an Allied propaganda, as it was common among the cartoons of that time.
