Apolinario Mabini Day has been observed every July 23 yearly in the Philippines. The Filipino National Hero Apolinario Mabini was born on the 23rd of July in Tanuan City, Batangas, Philippines. He was popular for being the spokesman and the theoretician of the Revolution of the Philippines. He was also the advisor of a revolutionary government, and has been famous for being “the brain of a revolution.” Even though he lost his legs functions because of polio, Mabini’s role was the key in battling for independence. Mabini was the foreign minister and the prime minister of the Philippines and helped in the drafting of the constitution.
THE HISTORY OF APOLINARIO MABINI DAY
Mabini was born in Tanuan City, Batangas, on July 23, 1864. He was born from a poor family. Mabini’s mother was Dionisia Maranan, a vendor from a local public wet market. His father, Ignacio Mabini, had been a farmer, and Mabini had eight siblings. His childhood demonstrated cleverness and a strong willing to study and learn. Since it was hard for his kin to afford his schooling, Mabini started to work to support himself for his studies.
In year 1881, he won the partial scholarship to Colegio de San Juan de Letran in Manila. In 1887, he had been recognized also as a Latin professor. After that, to pursue his Law school he went to University of Santo Tomas. He won the law degree in year 1894. In 1896, Mabini contracted polio that left him with paralyzed legs. For that reason, he’s also famous being a “Sublime Paralytic.” It’s said that Mabini’s disability saved him that autumn. In 1896 of October, the colonial police detained Mabini for his effort with reform movement. On 1896 of December 30, he was under house detained at San Juan de Dios Hospice when the colonial administration summarily executed Dr. José Rizal, the other man drawn in the Revolution in the Philippines. It is believed that the polio of Mabini kept him from that same fate.
In year 1898, Apolinario had been able to speak with the latest President Emilio Aguinaldo, wherein he convinced him to originate the revolutionary government with assembly. Mabini became both the foreign minister and the prime minister of the Philippines the next year. Mabini wrote the constitution to a short-lived republic from 1898 to 1899. Then Mabini died in Manila on 1903 of May 13.

Apolinario Mabini y Maranan was a Filipino educator, lawyer, statesman and a revolutionary leader who first served as the constitutional and legal adviser to a Revolutionary Government, and being the Philippines’ Primary Prime Minister, during the First Philippine Republic establishment. He was regarded as the “brain of the revolution” or the “utak ng himagsikan” and is considered also as the national hero of the Philippines. Mabini’s thoughts and work on the administration shaped the Philippines’ battle for independence in the next century.
The two works of Mabini, Programa Constitucional de la República Filipina or (The Constitutional Program of the Philippine Republic, in 1898), and the El Verdadero Decálogo or (The True Decalogue, 24th of June, 1898) became instrumental in drafting of what had been finally known as Malolos Constitution.
Mabini carried out every governmental and revolutionary activities of him despite losing the function of mutually his legs because of polio shortly before that 1896 Philippine Revolution.
Mabini’s role in the history of the Philippine saw him dealing with the first Spanish colonial decree in the opening times of the Revolution in the Philippines, and then the American colonial rule during the days of Philippine–American War. America saw Mabini detained and expelled to Guam by the colonial authorities of America, allowing for a revisit only after two months before Mabini’s passing in May 1903.
