The masterpiece of the European art is Jan van Eyck Ghent Altarpiece, situated at St. Bavo Cathedral in Ghent. It has been created in 1432. However, one of its original panels has been missing.

The title of its lower left panel, The Righteous Judges, is the part of the painting that has been stolen in 1934 from the cathedral. One of the mysterious thefts remains unresolved. This thief takes out the panel in the evening, leaving the mysterious note in the area: “Taken from Germany through the Treaty of the Versaile”. It refers to the truth that the entire altarpiece has been taken by Germany during the WWI. In the days following this theft, this thief exchanged some letters with a law, but did not reach the agreement.

10. Tucker’s Cross

In the year 1955, the marine explorer and Teddy Tucker, the treasure hunter, staggered upon the gold cross during the searches at Bermuda. Initially clueless, Tucker could later discover that this 22 carat gold cross with the emeralds was the only most valuable object that has ever been recovered from the shipwreck, and that this has been possibly the relics of that Spanish galleon of San Pedro that sunk in 1594. This gold cross has been housed in Bermuda at Aquarium Museum. In 1975, it has been discovered that this cross was stolen. When Tucker entered the museum, he noticed that the cross’s thief carefully changed the item in its display case with a replica that is poorly made of plastic. In the Bond-esque turn of events, the extremely valuable stuff vanished without any trace at all.
